Katrina Recovery Up Close and Surreal

"Mississippi's Hurricane Katrina story fell victim to the media's craving for the 'sexy' story," wrote Michael Newsom in The South Mississippi Sun Herald (Aug 26), "and to a national public's hunger for dramatic footage of rescues from rising levee waters rather than the destruction of a coastline, media critics and observers agree."

In this LNR episode, the Rev Sandra Kaye Taylor speaks with us all the way from Carriere, Mississippi. "Through my own survival of numerous life traumas and tragedies to overcome enormous odds from natural disasters to a near-fatal auto accident while escaping domestic abuse, I have come to realize that the hope and encouragement one receives while in the storms of life can be instrumental in recuperating on many levels."

When Katrina tore through Carriere, Rev Taylor had already been knocked down and was just recovering from other troubles. Thanks to a miraculous nutritional supplement and the grace of God, Rev Taylor's weakened condition improved enough that she jumped right into rescue mode amid the "sticks and rubble" of the razed Gulf Coast. Under any other circumstances than Katrina, you'd listen to this and think that the good Rev is telling tall tales. Hear it from somebody who's livin' it!
