Real Christians Care for the Earth

The Adult Forum of St Matthew Lutheran Church, Moorestown NJ, started 2009 on a high note: Their guest speaker of January 4 treated a subject that I'm sure occupies many a New Year's resolution: The nexus where the God of the Bible and our concern for the environment intersect.

Tanya Barnett is a graduate of Valparaiso University in theology and science. She worked with the Peace Corps in Niger, Africa, and with the L'Arche Community for developmentally disabled adults in Tacoma WA before entering Vanderbilt University Divinity School in Nashville TN. She worked with abused women there, and with native peoples in Alaska.

Following graduation, she assumed a position with Earth Ministry, a non-denominational Christian environmental group in Seattle. She has developed, taught and participated in local, regional, and national efforts to define and live out a distinctly Christian view of human relation to the rest of God's creation.
